Travel South America;we're in Ollantaytambo a traditional Inca Village
What a beautiful place to wake up in…the Sacred Valley, surrounded by beautiful mountains, lush vegetation, vibrant colors, and not far away we hear the sounds of the Urubama River. How much more idyllic can this be…totally surreal.
What a great place to ponder, about the way the Inca’s lived and the journey we are about to take…trekking for four days on the Alternative Inca Trail that was one of the famous Royal Highways of the Inca’s built 500 years ago.
Can you imagine that, we are going to be walking on the same soil that royalty walked on….our spiritual journey is about to begin!

Before we commence our trek, we need to stock up with sweets, walking sticks, bandanas, fruit, pens, pads, and anything else that we need as we are going to be trekking for four days, without any access to anything except for what nature provides…
Where do we buy all our goodies or get some more money???
Well there is this beautiful Incan Village, Ollantaytambo that we go through before we commence our trek to Machu Picchu starting tomorrow!!! How exciting…
Ollantaytambo has some great history, it’s incredible, everywhere we’ve been to so far has taught us something new. Here is some more information that will explain the temple, that we will be walking around today.
Firstly, can you believe Ollantaytambo was built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning?
The temple area is at the top of steep terracing which helped to provide excellent defenses, especially providing protection for the strategic entrance to the lower Urubamba Valley. The stone they used for these buildings was brought from a quarry high up on the opposite side of the Urubamba River – an incredible feat involving the efforts of thousands of workers. Apparently the complex was still under construction at the time of the conquest and was never completed and for reasons unknown, work mysteriously stopped on this huge project.
With the mystery of an uncompleted temple, the excitement of commencing our trek… we go to bed, with thoughts of what we have already seen and experienced.
Preparing our minds for what will be an incredible journey to the Sun Gate….goodnight.
