Travel South America;let me share with you something very special…

Before we commence our long awaited trek to the Sun Gate, from where we will see the breathtaking view of Machu Picchu, known as the spiritual centre of Peru, I want to take you to a very special village.

 

Back in May 2007 I was in Peru researching for Christopher Howard’s Billionaire Adventure Club; Chris wanted to visit Peru, with the view of helping a community, his mission is “to eradicate poverty through education”. 

 

I was introduced to the Huilloq community, which is one of the last remaining villages that the people are direct descendents from the Inca’s.  The village President and Vice President met with us to discuss how we could help them. 

 

The most pressing need that they had, was to finish building their high school, which was two years in the making and due to lack of funds was at a stand still.  Heather and I at the time thought that it would be a wonderful project to undertake and ensure that the high school was completed, that way the children would be able to further their education without having to leave their village and their families.

 

It was whilst we were having lunch at the Presidents home, which was guinea pig and potatoes! our guide was called away, he then came back to me saying that he had a very special request. 

 

Not knowing what was going to be asked of me I gulped and said “Yes”, with my consent, our guide proceeded to tell me that the vice presidents wife, Felicita, had asked me to be Godmother to her daughter Benedicta…I was left speechless, and with tears in my eyes I accepted.

 

As we were returning a month later with the group, all the arrangements were made. Chris, Heather and I kept the christening a surprise for the members of the group.  On arrival into Huilloq, they were taken to the local church, which was a dirt floor, wooden benches and mud brick walls building, and there they saw a little girl dressed in white walking towards them…my godchild.

 

After a beautiful service with all the local children, and the Christopher Howard Billionaire Adventure Club members, I was a Godmother to a beautiful little girl Benedicta.

 

This is what I want to share with you; we will be visiting the village and my beautiful little girl.

 

Blessings come in various forms and this for me was very humbling and will always have a very special place in my heart…

 

After a special picnic lunch, with the village children and some of the local villagers, who may even show us some of their beautiful weavings…we will prepare for another special four days…
