Travel South America;we trek past waterfalls to reach Winay Wayna…

With a total feeling of gratefulness for what we have and what we achieved over these past three days, we are on our way.

It is tough trekking today, our guide will pace us perfectly so that we arrive safely and with enough energy to celebrate our achievement.  We will be tackling a lot of steps, so no sooner will we have finished climbing one lot of steps to only find that around the corner there will be, that’s right, more steps.

Along the way we will see some amazing Incan ruins, so I wonder what the ruins at Machu Picchu are going to be like????  Whilst we continue to trek we go through some incredible topography, rain forest, trail on the side of the mountain where we will be able to see the Urumbamba River, and you said it…more steps.

Beautiful fresh water as well as beautiful to see

Just before we arrive at Winay Wayna, we stop at this incredible waterfall, here we will refill our water bottles as the water will be pristinely clean, fresh from the snow capped mountains above us… I really think we are in heaven…just the aches in our bodies will keep us grounded to the task ahead of us…

Once we have refilled our water bottles and rest a little, we tackle the incredibly steep climb to Winay Wayna, which means “forever young” in the local Quecha language.

What you see through the cloudsCitadel before Machu Picchu

We arrive to see incredible ruins, noticing that the Inca terraced the entire mountainside, this was for growing food, and they also built it as a two-level complex which is connected by a cascade of fifteen baths, incredible.

Apparently from where the site is situated, with views of the waterfalls, from where we have just come from, and the Urubamba River which we see below us, they say that this site was a religious centre associated with water. The Inca’s astound me the more we learn about them the more intrigued I become…

Look at me, on top of the world

With this intrigue I will leave you as you overlook the incredible scenery, look back to where we have trekked and really get ready to celebrate the last part of our journey to the worlds newest Eighth Wonder….
