Travel South America; we leave Lima…

Paracas, Peru

As we leave Lima we drive down the coast of Peru to the small coastal resort of Paracas. On the way we will visit the huge desert site of Pachamcamac, many believe that this site was considered one of the most important religious centers of the indigenous peoples of the central Andes, and contains a number of pyramids.

Spanish historical records, along with extensive archaeological research, have clarified its history and significance.  It is amazing and dates back to 200AD.   Pachacamac is the mythological God of "fire and earthquakes,"   according to legend tremors and earthquakes were expressions of his anger!!!!! which became the home to the great Oracle Staff.

There is so much more history attached to this place; however we will have time to learn more as we visit the great pyramidal temples, and the remaining frescoes, incredible to think that we will we walking around a sacred site that was started back in 200AD.   Today Pachacamac has become a destination for those interested in the ancient sacred ways…

From here we continue down the coast to  the fishing port of Pisco and on towards the Paracas Peninsula where we take small study launches for a 3 hour cruise out to the Ballestas Islands (described as Peru's mini Galapogos) a haven for marine wildlife.

These spectacular islands, erode into many caves and arches, and provides a home to thousands of seabirds and hundreds of sea-lions, there are, can you believe 150 different sorts of marine birds!!!

Another great thing that we will see from the sea etched into the sand dunes is a huge "candelabra" which they say was a beacon for ancient sailors!!!

We have only just begun our adventure and already experiencing incredible diversity, what else is there to discover…

Until  tomorrow where we continue our journey,

I wonder what we will be in store for us???

our South American adventure is alive and part of our lives for the next 29 days…
